Long Winded Preachers!

For the past 24 hours Pastor Steven Furtick of Elevation Church in Charlotte, NC has been preaching none stop in celebration of his first book, Sun Stand Still being released.

I’ll be honest, I can think of easier ways to celebrate a book release, but thought that this was pretty unique

Pastor Steven is a great preacher and really captivates his audience for the 30 minutes he preaches in a Sunday morning, but 24 hours, that’s got to take some pretty crazy concentration to stay awake for that long!

It reminds me of a story found in Acts 20:7-12. The Apostle Paul turns up at this little church. He has to leave the next day and has so much he would like to say that he gets kind of long winded! In fact he preaches all day right through to midnight. Yes the Apostle Paul was a great man, but hours upon hours of hearing this man preach made some a little sleepy. Well a young man called Eutychus was sitting on the window ledge; he fell asleep, fell out of the window, droped a couple of stories and died. Next, the service stops, Paul goes outside, prays for the kid, and suddenly he comes back to life.

Ok, so a crazy miracle happens, most us would have been rejoicing and gone and celebrated, not Paul! He went straight back upstairs and continued to preach!

Every time I read this story I laugh out loud! I’ve listened to long winded preachers, but this one took the biscuit!

Well, this Sunday I promise to keep the sermon the 30 minutes max!

In the meantime, Pastor Steven, I hope no-one falls to their death during your 24 hour marathon, and a great big congratulations on your first book, your life, ministry, passion and audacious faith that is an inspiration to all us church planters!

We’re Launched!

So the day finally came! The race began, and now there is no backing out!

Yesterday Generation Church was launched and what a great day it was. The band was incredible, the kid’s area knocked the ball out of the park and the team is really the best team in the world!!

Yesterday I stood at the front and watched the band play and I felt such a huge sense of awe at how a little dream God gave us what seems like an eternity now has turned into reality. The first buds of life came through the ground for Generation Church yesterday and I honestly can’t wait for next week for the next couple of months to see what God is going to do in the lives of the people he has intended for us to reach!

I want to thank everyone who came out yesterday, everyone who has prayed with us for the last year, everyone who has sacrificially given of their money, time and energy to make Generation Church a reality.

It proved to me yesterday, that if you step out in faith, believe the task God has given you and stay the course, he will be faithful to complete the work he has started in you!

On Sunday we start a brand new series, “I’m Dreaming”. Everyone one of us have dreams of some sort, but have you ever given the thought that God may have dreams as well?

You see he does have a dream, and the great news is that dream involves you and me! Come out on Sunday to find out more. Click here for details.

The Baby Is Due!

When nine months of a pregnancy is up, everyone associated with the baby that is due is ready for the birth to take place.

Expectant mothers can not stop thinking about holding their little bundle of joy. Dad’s can’t wait to actually see their child instead of having to read magazines or go to classes on how to take care of a new-born. Grandmothers can’t wait to love a child without the responsibility of having to discipline them and Grandfathers can’t wait to look into the eyes of the Grandchild reminding them of the years they looked into their child’s eyes as a baby.

Baby’s create excitement, but they also create work and change lives forever.

Before you get any ideas, no my wife isn’t pregnant. However, we feel that we have been on a process for the last year and a half which will result in a baby being birthed in six days.

On Sunday (September 19th 2010), Generation Church will be birthed. We have already done lots of work. We’ve gathered an incredible team of committed, passionate people, we’ve invested our lives, money and what feels like our souls into this church. We’ve done the preview services and connection events. However, it is this Sunday that I have been looking forward to for over 18 months.

As with any baby, no-one knows what it will ultimately look like. All we know is that our DNA will be in the church’s DNA. We don’t know how it will grow, all we know is that if we stay healthy then the church has a great chance to stay healthy. We don’t know how our lives will be affected, all we know is that our lives will never go back to how they once were.

Sunday is a new chapter, Sunday is a day to celebrate, Sunday is a dream becoming reality, Sunday is the start of a church which desires to give life!

So if you are in the Baltimore area, then come a check us out at 10:30am on Sunday. Click here to get directions.

I’ve enjoy the last 18 months immensely. We’ve meet new friends, transformed good friendships into great ones, increased in faith and increase our urgency to tell the world about Jesus Christ.

I can’t wait for Sunday!
