Yesterday all over the world churches were taking a moment during their services to pray and give of their finances to the victims of the horrific earthquake that happened in Haiti last week.
Hearing reports from some churches of how their people stepped up to the plate and gave in such a generous way was something to jump and shout about. The people of Haiti will one day thank the millions of people who gave when they were not expected to give. It is something incredible when the church of Jesus Christ comes together to meet a need.
However, I can’t get this one thought out of my head. The thought is this: ‘Imagine if the church of Jesus Christ was so moved by compassion like this every week. Imagine if the church came together and decided to do something about poverty in our inner cities. Imagine if the church came together and decided to do something about all the undereducated kids in our towns. Imagine if the church came together and decided that the way our culture is heading is not good enough and reintroduced our cultures with a message of hope, love, joy and peace. Imagine if the church were so moved by compassion on all those who have yet to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ’. Just imagine!
Whatever you are imagining would not be anywhere close to the impact we could make! For when the church comes together there is nothing in the world that can stop it!
What can you do to start a movement of compassion?
