The events in Haiti of the past 24 hours leaves me with great compassion and sadness for the lives that have been affected.

A country as poor as Haiti will take a long time to recover from the 7.0 magnitude quake. Events like these often have me questioning why God would let something like this happen? In all my years as a Christ follower and a believer in a creator God, this is one question I have never or will be ever able to answer. You see, I recognize that while man has intelligence, we still are so far off the mind and might of God we wouldn’t even understand if God did answer that question man has asked for thousands of years.

However, while these disasters are devastating and I would wish them on no-one they do remind me of a great day ahead. Jesus told his disciples that at the end of the world there would be many events that would turn this world into chaos! One of these events would be many earthquakes. Just imagine an earthquake like the one yesterday happening on a regular basis in multiple places?

Jesus told his disciples when you see these events do one thing, ‘lift up your head and look up to the heavens for that is time when I will return!’ Just imagine in the midst of crisis and fear the Prince of Peace will return to this earth to bring comfort, protection and hope to his people.

So when I hear of events like yesterday I can not help but look up and give thanks to God. I give thanks because no matter what happens on this earth, no matter what disaster, crisis or even problem I go through, my soul is in perfect peace with the one true God. Even though the present make seem uncertain I know that my future is certain, a future of eternity with the very one who has done everything required so that I would not suffer!

Do you have the certainty and assurance that your future is secure? If not, Jesus Christ has given you the opportunity to place your future in his hands. The bible says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved!
