Hillsong’s Success

I listen to Pandora Radio a lot. The great thing about Pandora if your not familiar with it is that you can custom make your own radio station with music you like.

What I find amazing is that on almost all the custom radio stations I have made on Pandora, in nearly all the cases I have heard a song either performed or written by someone from Hillsong.

hillsong-faith-hope-loveI remember the very first night I heard this new song called, “Shout To The Lord”. I had been at a youth rally and went home all excited telling my parents I had heard the best song ever written! Well I’m not sure if it was the best song ever written, but I know from that song the music that is sung and played in our churches have forever been changed.

Hillsong have had incredible success over the past 15 years. It seems that almost every worship set sung and played on Sunday’s in churches across the nation have at least one song that originated from Hillsong.

I think it is very obvious why they have been able to shape the worship culture of the church today. It is not because of a great marketing campaig (even though they have those); it is not because they play 21st century relevant music (even though they do, and do it very well); it is not because they are one step ahead of everyone else concerning music genre’s (even though they are certainly leading the way), but I believe it is because they have found what they were designed for by God. They have then pursued the roadway God has paved for them and they are doing this all within the gifts, talents and creativity within their own church.

God has designed everyone of us for something great! We can either accept what God made us for or choose to go our own way! Real success will come when you choose God’s way. Then you must be willing to go down the path God created. Not the path everyone else is going down. Not the path that seems easist or even the path they may seem the most logical, but the path God paved for you. Then finally you must start to create just as God planned you to create. You may not be the most creative person in the world, but you have been made in the image of God and he is the great creator, that means you can create! Too many people think they don’t have to redesign the wheel, but it is people like Hillsong who are always looking two steps ahead of everyone else and know that the wheel of today will not work tomorrow who will be the ones who go down in history as people who fulfilled what God designed them to do.

Next time you are in a worship service and hear a song written by Hillsong remember they are doing what they were created to do. My challenge to you is this, what are you doing to fulfill what you were created to do?
