Fed by a Raven!

This past week I have been reminded of how God will supply for our every need! There is a story of divine supply in the bible that I would not blame you if you didn’t believe it real. A man named Elijah was on the run from the King & Queen of his country. God told him to run away and hide in this place called Kerith. All that was there was desert and a brook! God said I will supply every need for you, you will drink water from the brook and Ravens (not the Baltimore Ravens!) will bring you food each day. So he went and these big black birds would bring him food! You can find this story on 1 Kings 17:1-6.

I would not have believed this story either if I had not seen God’s divine supply in my life! I remember hearing incredible stories from my Parents & Grandparents of God doing something crazy to provide a need in our lives. While I’ve never been fed by ravens, I have seen God do similar things in my life when I have a need!

Some today may be thinking, ‘I have a lot of needs and God is not supplying any of them!’. Well the bible says that God shall supply all our needs according to his riches that are in heaven. Philippians 4:19. I do believe this verse to be true, but there may be a reason you are not seeing your needs met. Here are the reasons I have seen that causes God to supply your needs:

  • When you chase after a God given dream

  • When God’s dreams become your dreams

  • When you are able to separate a real need from a ‘I want it so I need it’ need

  • When your needs are so great that all you can do is trust in God

  • When you supernaturally just trust in God fully, without doubting

  • When you realize that God is your ultimate source and he is the one who gives and also takes away

If you have a need today, ask yourself one question, ‘Will this need if met help me fulfill the dreams and plans God has for my life?’ If the answer is yes, watch out, your need is about to be met! God will supply it! If your answer is no, pray this prayer, ‘God give me wisdom today to be able take what I have and use it for you!’ You’ll be surprised what God will give you!

Inspirers!

I am making a little change to the way I post in my blog. I currently post three days a week, Monday, Wednesday & Friday. While I am still going to post on these same days I am adding a little bit of structure to what I post.

Previously my posts have been random! Some more random than others! However, starting today, on Wednesdays I am going to be posting on a category I am calling, ‘Inspirers’. These are going to be a series of blogs about people who have inspired me. These are some who I know personally, some I have never met in my life. Others are living while some have passed on from this life. Some maybe household names while others will be certain unknowns.

What I hope to accomplish by these posts will be to share the inspiration! It is the stories and lifestyles of these individuals that have shaped me and continue to shape me. I hope their stories and lives will also inspire you to achieve more than you ever thought and help you endure to the ultimate end!

Next Wednesday I will begin with someone who inspired me to realize it is never about me! However, for today I want to hear from you! Who are the people who have or continue to inspire you and have shaped your life? Leave a comment and explain why? Let’s share the inspiration!

Cultural Slide

When you think of countries that influence the rest of the world it is hard to look past the United States as the number one influencer of cultures on the globe. However, while US TV, Sports, Politics and personalities overload foreign television sets, the United States is a follower of European and Japanese culture in many ways.

Just look at your cell phone! The technology that is so revolutionary today was in the rest of the world yesterday. Those slim line fitted new pants you just purchased from the “Buckle” on Saturday are in the clearance section of some European store today. Those small compact cars that are filling our interstates this week were jamming the roads of London, Tokyo and Paris over ten years ago. Growing up in Europe it is now amazing to see how the American culture evolves (yes I used the word ‘evolve!”) to become more like it’s European counterparts.

Now as a resident of the US this doesn’t concern me except for one area. I have seen over the last twenty years how the terms God, Spirit, Church, Christianity and Religion have almost become taboo subjects. I have watched as churches have emptied and people who once had a strong faith now see Sunday mornings as a day to stay in bed.

It gets worse! People who were once the pillars of their churches are no longer committed. The lifestyles they once lived are now viewed as legalistic, old fashioned and stuffy! So now Christians partake in things they thought they’d go to hell for in the 70′s! Church is no longer a community but an obligation and above all, God has been either forgotten or lost!

The result of this is a generation of kids growing up who have no convictions! They do not know the word moderation and their lifestyles are no separate from their peers at the local pub or University Student Union. Many no longer see the need for God, Faith and certainly not the local church. This makes me sad! I look back on my years in the UK and think, ‘what did I do to stop this slide?’ I tell you what I did! Nothing!

I see the same cultural slide in American life. If you think what your kids are doing now is bad enough. If you think what the schools are teaching now is horrifying enough; well, take a look at Europe! Within ten years this American culture will mirror that of Europe today!

So what do you believe we can do to stop this slide? I have a suggestion! In the book of Revelation, John wrote to the church at Ephesus. They were a good church. Lots of people coming through the doors, lots of new innovation and lots of money in the coffers! However, they started to slide as we have done. God’s word to them, ‘Return to your first love!’. Basically, find your love for Christ again! We need to teach, preach, show and live the love of Christ. It is only a passion for his love that will save us from ruin and will save our kids from a Godless life!
