Fed by a Raven!

This past week I have been reminded of how God will supply for our every need! There is a story of divine supply in the bible that I would not blame you if you didn’t believe it real. A man named Elijah was on the run from the King & Queen of his country. God told him to run away and hide in this place called Kerith. All that was there was desert and a brook! God said I will supply every need for you, you will drink water from the brook and Ravens (not the Baltimore Ravens!) will bring you food each day. So he went and these big black birds would bring him food! You can find this story on 1 Kings 17:1-6.

I would not have believed this story either if I had not seen God’s divine supply in my life! I remember hearing incredible stories from my Parents & Grandparents of God doing something crazy to provide a need in our lives. While I’ve never been fed by ravens, I have seen God do similar things in my life when I have a need!

Some today may be thinking, ‘I have a lot of needs and God is not supplying any of them!’. Well the bible says that God shall supply all our needs according to his riches that are in heaven. Philippians 4:19. I do believe this verse to be true, but there may be a reason you are not seeing your needs met. Here are the reasons I have seen that causes God to supply your needs:

  • When you chase after a God given dream

  • When God’s dreams become your dreams

  • When you are able to separate a real need from a ‘I want it so I need it’ need

  • When your needs are so great that all you can do is trust in God

  • When you supernaturally just trust in God fully, without doubting

  • When you realize that God is your ultimate source and he is the one who gives and also takes away

If you have a need today, ask yourself one question, ‘Will this need if met help me fulfill the dreams and plans God has for my life?’ If the answer is yes, watch out, your need is about to be met! God will supply it! If your answer is no, pray this prayer, ‘God give me wisdom today to be able take what I have and use it for you!’ You’ll be surprised what God will give you!

I have seen it, over and over again, how God can and will supply our needs. I like the part where you say: “When you are able to separate a real need from a ‘I want it so I need it’ need”….that’s a good thing to ask ourselves and to recognize. I am thankful that God has shown me this week how He will supply our needs. Let this be a reminder when a time of ‘short supply’ arrives….always knowing that our God is giving and loving and no matter how much we have, or the lack thereof, we are secure in the palm of his hand. That’s why I love the words of this song:

This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in the hunger in me
My God is a God who provides

And this is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on it’s way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand

This is my prayer in the harvest
    When favor and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be empited again
The seed I’ve recieved I will sow
