The other day I became friends with someone on Facebook that I haven’t been in contact with for at least five-six years. This person sent me a message and said, “You’re facebook postings and updates all seem very serious, I hope life isn’t too serious it’s way too short for that!”
This got me thinking. Five years ago I would have been horrified by a comment like that. Life was about having fun and not being too serious. I wasn’t a wild party person, but the thought of not having fun was a nightmare. Today my perspective has changed a little. A comment that would have once horrified me now comes as a compliment.
I have discovered that yes, life is very short. The older you get the faster it goes by and the faster it goes by the more I realize that this world doesn’t need people to have more fun, but it needs more people to get more serious about helping change this world and mold an up coming generation who are on the path to destruction and turmoil.
This may seem a little heavy for a Monday morning but I have realized that my calling in life wasn’t to have a fun loving life, but it was to tell a dark dying world of the hope, life and light they can find in Jesus Christ. This isn’t just some fun pastime of mine, this has become my life’s work.
Think of how many people die each day having lived a life of unfulfilled satisfaction, a life of pain, a life of suffering and a life of hurt. Think of how many people live each day who are chasing a life of happiness only to find happy-less days. These are the people who need a introduction to the hope of the world. Think of how many young people have been abused, how many have been told they will be nothing in life, how many have got into a wrong crowd just looking for affirmation. These are the people who need to know God loves them and has an awesome plan for their lives. Think of all the marriages that are breaking up, the kids who are affected, the bitterness that has spread. These are the people who need the comfort and reconciliation of a loving Christ. Think of all the starving people, those dying of aids, those who have been forced into prostitution and drugs and those affected by war. These are the people who need a Divine healer and a Divine peace. Finally, think of all those people living their average lives not even realizing they are on a course to an eternal hell. These are the people who need a risen Savior.
So today I do not apologize for being too serious, but I do apologize for not telling, showing and demonstrating to the world sooner the love, hope and incredible satisfaction there is in my friend, Jesus Christ.
Do you think I am too serious? Do you think this world needs to get serious or am I just a little over zealous?
